Turmeric Rice with Peas

Yields: 4 to 6

Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 1 Medium Onion (Diced)
  • 1-1/2 Cup Frozen Peas
  • 1-1/2 Cup Jasmine Rice
  • 1/2 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
  • 3/4 Tsp. Sea Salt
  • 2-1/2 Cups Water
  • 1/2 Green Chili Peppers
  • 1/4 Tsp. Crushed Red Peppercorns
  • A Small Pinch of Saffron
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Butter

Method

  1. In a Medium Saucepan, Add Olive Oil, Onions, and Peas and Sautee for about 2 to 3 minutes over Medium heat
  2. Add Rice and Sautee for another minute, Add Water immediately
  3. Add Turmeric, Salt, Crushed Peppercorns, Saffron and Butter
  4. Cover pot and cook for about 7 minutes, mixing 1 or 2 times
  5. Turn heat to Medium Low and continue to cook another 5 minutes
  6. Finally turn heat to Low and continue to cook another 10 minutes or until rice is fully cooked
  7. Serve with Kabab or Steak

Additional Info

For a variation, instead of adding Butter, you can substitute Ghee or Mustard Oil.
