Pan Fry Marinated Whiting Over Medium High Heat

Set aside Pan Fried Fish in a large Pot

Sautee Onions, Green Chilli and Tomatoe in the Frying Pan

Sautee Onions, Green Chili, and Tomatoes over Medium Heat

Pour Sauteed Onions, and Tomatoes over Fried Fish and Cook over Medium Heat

Whiting Jhol

Cook Time: 30 mins
Serves: 4 to 6

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1-1/2 Tsp. Turmeric
  • 1/2 Tsp. Chili Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp. Paprika
  • 1/2 Tbsp. Cumin Corrainder Spice
  • 1 Tsp. Sea Salt
  • 3 Tbsp. Oilve Oil
  • 2 Lbs. Whiting Fillets
  • 2 Medium Onions (Thinly Sliced)
  • 2 to 3 Green Chili (Sliced in Half Lengthwise)
  • 2 Large Tomatoes (Cut in 8 Wedges)
  • 20 Stalks of Cilantro (Diced)

Method

  1. In a Bowl, Mix Ginger Garlic Paste with, Turmeric, Chili Powder, Paprika, Cumin Coriander Spice, and Salt
  2. Brush or Rub Spice Mix on both sides of Whiting; Marinate for 15 Minutes
  3. In a Large Frying Pan over Medium High Heat, Add Olive Oil, and Pan Fry Whiting; For about 2 Minutes each side
  4. Arrange pan fried Whiting in a Large Pot and Set aside; Set Frying Pan aside for Re-use later
  5. Mix Sliced Onions and Green Chilli in left over Marinade, and Sautee with Tomatoes in Left over Oil in Frying Pan over Medium Heat for about 2 to 3 Minutes
  6. Pour Sauteed Onions, Green Chili, and Tomato over Fried Whiting in Pot; Turn Heat to Medium and Cook with Pot Covered for about 10 Minutes
  7. Add Cilantro to Pot, and Mix with top layer of Onions and Tomatoes; Take Care not to Break Fish; Continue to Cook for another 10 Minutes over Medium Heat
  8. Turn off Heat, and Serve wth Rice

My mom used to make this with whole Whitings during the winter months. It took me a while to figure out how to make this so it would taste like her dish. This is one of my favorite fish dishes!
