Remove Outer Skin of Root

Cut Celery Root in 8 Pieces

Boiled Potato and Celery Root

Sliced Shallots and Green Chili Peppers

Combine all Ingredients in a Large Bowl, and Mash with Hand or Potato Masher

Celery Root & Potato Bhorta

Cook Time: 20 mins
Serves: 8 to 10


  • 1 Celery Root
  • 7 Small Potatoes
  • 1 Tsp. Salt
  • 2 Shallots (thinly Sliced)
  • 5 Green Chili Peppers (Diced)
  • 3 Tsp. Mustard Oil
  • 1 Tsp. Sea Salt


  1. Prepare Celery Root by Removing Outer Skin with a Knife
  2. Cut Celery Root into 8 Pieces
  3. Boil Potato and Celery Root in a Medium Sized Pot with 1 Tsp. Salt, over High Heat for about 20 Minutes; Remove from Heat once Potato and Celery Root are cooked, Remove from Water, and Cool
  4. Add all remaining Ingredients in a Large Bowl, and Use a Potato Masher or your Hand to Mash all Ingredients into a Bhorta
  5. Serve as a Side Dish with White Rice

Additional Info

If you want you can add a few stalks of Chopped Cilantro to the Bhorta
